Deforestation, Desertification and Bio diversity are the major challengers to sustainable development affecting the lives and livelihoods of millions. The figures are alarming – 13 million hectares of forests lost annually, desertification of 3.6 billion hectares of land – across the world. Add to this is the fact that 8% of the known animal breeds are extinct (of the 8,300) and another 22% at risk of extinction.

Forests cover 30% of earth, providing food and shelter and are key to combating climate change, protecting biodiversity and are home to the indigenous population. Nature is key for recreation and mental well-being and many cultures link spiritual values to it. By protecting forests, we can strengthen natural resource management and increase land productivity.
